MCP Web site Gets a New Face

On Friday, October 28, 13 Ahau, we launched a brand new home page on the Mayan Calendar Portal web site. The new page pulls out all the key content from the site—and introduces new stuff!—so you no longer have to spend time figuring out which pages you really want to visit. It's all there:

  • Above-the-fold feature slideshow

  • Featured Videos

  • Featured Images (new!)

  • Mayan Calendar news headlines (new!)

  • MCP Event Calendar

  • A much better looking Facebook box

  • "Friends of the MCP" featuring various collaborators

  • A user-friendly quick-reference site map (bottom of site)

The rest of the web site has not been changed. Everything is still where it used to be, including the MCP tzolk'in calendar and calculator.

You can use the top level navigation bar on the new home page to access all the key sections of the site directly.

Enjoy, and if you like the new look, please share, tweet, and tell your friends!

The Great 10/28/2011 Debate

A great deal of discussion has sparked around the recent date of October 28, 2011—this is the date Dr. Carl Calleman had set for the "end" of the Mayan Calendar, in the context of his theory of the Nine Waves. Nevermind that the Maya Daykeepers of Central America vehemently disagree with the idea of the Tzolk'in ending any time soon—in fact, ever. Nevermind that respected Maya scholars throughout the world refuse to entertain the Nine Wave theory.

The controversial 10/28/2011 date has touched off a storm of activity on our blogs:

Fatih challenges Carl: an open letter to Carl, followed by more posts and a second open letter

Carl responds: and Fatih replies in turn, but you may also want to read Carl's original post outlining his thoughts

Dr. Robert Sitler weighs in: a blog post titled simply "October 28, 2011"

Ken Johnson writes a separate reply to Fatih: as always, a detailed post based on facts and cultural references

We invite your comments and questions. October 28, 2011 has come and gone, the Tzolk'in is alive and well, having just started the Imix trecena, but the real question is, are we any closer to personal enlightenment?

MCP's Mystery App!

For the past several months, we've been hard at work designing and developing a new, and very unique, mobile application.

Just like our first app, the MCP Mayan Tzolk'in, this new app is also based on the Mayan Calendar, but it harnesses a completely different aspect of the Calendar... that you may not even have known exists. In fact, based on our research, no app—or web site—like this exists!

And so, just because we're really excited about this app, we're going to give away FIVE FREE download codes to the first five people who correctly guess what the app does. (The free codes apply for the iPhone only)

All you need to do is email us your guess, and we'll let you know if you got it or not!
