The Trecena of Transformation
Welcome to the second issue of El Quetzal, the Mayan Calendar Portal newsletter. Today we set sail on the 6th trecena of this Tzolk'in round, the trecena of 1 Cimi. Cimi is "Death", symbolizing the sacred cyclical process of birth, death and rebirth. This is a trecena of transformation, life changes, important transitions. Breathe into it. Let go of anxiety, fear, doubt and the need to control... let the next 13 days guide your ship steady and strong through the storms of life. And in line with the sea of transformation we are about to dive into, we are announcing a new initiative—to inspire Hollywood to shed its storylines of death and destruction, and awaken to its audiences with a different kind of drama and emotion. See below! As always, please email us with your thoughts, requests, or questions. Blessings, Namaste and In Lak'ech! Tell Hollywood how you really feel—review "2012"
SONY Pictures' aggressively-marketed action movie "2012" opens today, November 13, in the US and Canada, and we're opening the floodgates for your comments and reviews. For those of you planning on seeing the film, we invite you to send in your opinions about the movie and its portrayal of the Mayan Calendar. We've created an online form you can submit. All reviews will be sent directly to director Roland Emmerich and SONY Pictures, and once the film ends its run we'll report on the results of all your reviews. So take this opportunity to communicate directly with Hollywood, and make your voice heard!
The Wisdom of the Jaguar and the Art of Dreaming
The Mayan Calendar Portal is pleased to announce our latest collaboration, with respected author and Maya scholar Ken Johnson. Some of you may know him for his Mythic Astrology series, or his popular Jaguar Wisdom: An Introduction to the Mayan Calendar, the only currently available book written with the assistance of contemporary Mayan Calendar diviners. Ken joins the MCP with his first blog, titled "The Mayan Calendar and the Art of Dreaming", where he takes on a fascinating exploration of the meaning dreams have for the Maya.
