How do you use the Mayan Calendar in your everyday life? Do you combine it with the Gregorian calendar?

We use the Mayan calendar daily and we also pay attention to upcoming days and people’s birthdays.  World events and news as well as history and the distant future are meaningful to us on the tzolkin days as well.  Each of the 20 glyphs represents some kind of activity or spiritual ritual that we try to engage in.Most importantly, we have been composing electronic music based on the vibrations of the tzolkin calendar days.  Our band name is Cosmicjaguar.  Before composing a new piece of music we meditate and try to feel what instruments, time signatures and tonalities would be appropriate for that day-sign.I often try to compare Mayan Astrology with Western Astrology and there are many interesting cosmic alignments between them.  Most recently has been the Fire the Grid event July 28, 2009 – 10 Tijax (Flint).  (www.Firethegrid.com)  There are parallels between the Grid completion of March 3, 2003 and the Grand Cross alignment of August 11, 1999 – both of those events happened on 11 Kawak (Storm), which is the day after 10 Tijax.

How has the Mayan Calendar influenced or changed your way of life or thinking?

We now understand that the Greorian calendar is a tool of social control that we are now freed from.  We have a real measuring stick for our personal growth and spiritual evolution.  Each 260 day cycle that goes by we look back and see where we were in previous cycles and can be glad that we have gone so far beyond our old issues and situations.  Using the 360-day tun cycle also helps to understand how and why  time feels accelerating as we get older.  Our spiritual maturity level grows faster than the Gregorian or solar year happens.

What challenges or difficulties have you encountered in integrating the Mayan Calendar into your daily life?

Mostly it is difficult to find others willing to accept the idea of using an alternate calendar in our local environment.  That has only changed in the past few tuns, it is still slow and tedious, but there are many more than when I first began using the calendar at the start of the Galactic Underworld.

What do you feel are the benefits of living with the Mayan Calendar?

More Birthdays and other events worth commemorating!
